GAAA Will Re-open It’s Doors, Aug 17

Office of the Principal

July 16, 2020

GAAA Opens Up Five-Lane Five-Driver Highway

Dear Parents, Students and Teachers:

We greet you with the news that GAAA will re-open its doors for instruction on August 17, 2020. There shall be five broad institutional imperatives driven by health and safety of both children and teachers. Those five focus areas of institutional imperatives are as follows:

Institutional Imperatives—Our Five-Lane Highway

  1. Lane 1–Spiritual Enhancement and Nurture to evangelical witnessing
  1. Lane 2–Instructional Quality integrating technology and instruction with a focus on research and application
  1. Lane 3–Community well-being emphasizing total wellness in mental, social, physical, and emotional health
  1. Lane 4–Stewardship of time, goods and services
  1. Lane 5–Constituency imaging toward fuller witnessing and testimony

Institutional Drivers: the vehicle that we will use to follow the Highway:

  • Driver 1–Safety (physical, health)
  • Driver 2—Health (mental, social, emotional, spiritual)
  • Driver 3—Communication to all—frequent road-signs and information
  • Driver 4- Confidence of Stakeholders
  • Driver 5—Spirituality—“God is in Charge”

In the light of the current situation and uncertainty prevalent, and in consideration of the CDC, state, local school district, city, and the South Atlantic Conference Re-Opening Guidelines, we have adopted the following phases in “the road less travelled”

  1. Phases 1-3 and Instructional Alignment–Our start-up and instructional periods will be aligned with the Phases 1-3 guidelines established, of most restrictive to least restrictive, with a movement from Phases 1-2-3 based on prevailing circumstances at the time.  We have regarded the mental, physical, social and economic health of students, parents and teachers, with a strong faith in God’s protection (Psalm 91:1-3). Movement from one phase to another is predicated on several factors: safety, health, etc.
  1. The Phases are aligned to instruction time-periods and also in consideration of the GAAA geographical locale and Conference guidelines:
  1. Phase 1 Online/Shelter in Instruction–from August 17-October 11—this is our constant phase, akin to Phase 1 of the Health program (shelter in place)
  1. Phase 2, Modified Online/Shelter-in-Instruction, October 13-December 17 (if circumstances permit, and if not remain at Phase 1), small groups up to 50 in two or more groups of not more than 2 days in school
  1. Phase 3—Hybrid Modified program (if circumstances permit, and if not, remain in Phase 2), from January 3, 2021 onward–3 days per week, but exceptions still made for those with predisposing conditions, both employees and students.
  1. Our Texts—“He that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty…do not afraid”. (Psalm 91:1-3)
  1. Delivery Platform–One major online platform, which is Moodle, with plug-ins of other areas— The scheduling of teaching will be distributed; teaching shall consist of a mix of teacher real-time appearance, student individual and group work with appropriate breaks for teacher and student. Emphasis placed on project work and teacher student interactivity
  1. Curriculum—the curriculum will have the following add-on features
  1. Academic Health—increased focus on Academic Quality
    1. Emphasis on healthy lifestyle integrated in all curricula
    2. Recorded physical exercise programs as part of the overall program
    3. Tech-Help Desk established for constant student support
    4. Individual Tutorial Sessions for students in addition to classes
    5. Scheduling the Online Day
    6. All students shall collect their IPADS at the appropriate time
  1. Spiritual Health-for both students and faculty—Spiritual Enhancement
    1. Conflict of the Ages Series (EGW) as part of a Zoom program
    2. Assemblies and chapels conducted by Zoom at specified times
    3. Mail & tract emphasis in a “student-send-a-tract” program
    4. “Virtual On Location” real-time Evangelism once per week as permissible
  1. Mental Health & Counseling Services made available to all students (coordinated by the Department of Counseling & Guidance Services)
    1. Online counseling and support programs for all students focusing on mental and emotional health
    2. Student Development Improvement Plans in collaboration with parental households
  1. Training and Re-training—all teachers are undergoing a digital literacy intensive retraining consisting of 20-clock hours, before the start of school, with 50% taught by an Andrews University team, as sponsored by the South Atlantic Conference Department of Education, and the remainder by the GAAA in-house team.  This is 50 percent beyond the required minimum.
  1. Parental Adjustment—we realize that some may prefer a fully location in-school program for several reasons and we are interested in the mental health of our students.  Please talk to us immediately and we will share with you how learning can happen away from home.
  1. Returns to In-Person on-site instruction at any time—GAAA will follow all South Atlantic Conference SDA pre-established guidelines with all local and city guidelines based on available data
    1. Social Distancing in place
    2. Masks/Physical Barriers
    3. Continuous sanitization
    4. Health checks
    5. All persons coming to the building for instruction and/or must be health-checked first with a certificate of good health
    6. All persons must have a temperature check daily
    7. Any other directive
  1. Orientation & Training for Students and Parents—the school will host a Zoom Orientation at least two weeks before school starts to explain any further details and will be in touch again with the schedule, teaching resources, technology, etc.
  1. Calendar—the dates listed are end-dates for the activity
    1. July 20-August 10
      1. Digital Training Sessions
      2. Re-Enrollment and Fees Registration
    2. July 27, Board meeting
    3. July 28, Joint Board-chair faculty/staff meeting
    4. August 3, Schedule Published
    5. August 3-10, Registration & Final Reviews
    6. August 3-5, Conference Zoom Convention
    7. August 10, Technology Readiness Pre-check

    2. Any person coming to the campus physically must have had a pre-check health clearance and must be tested daily and must wear protective gear masks, etc.,
    3. Exceptions made at every phase for those who need the exceptions of a higher standard of care
    4. The school has made provision for technology expansion, support
    5. https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/
  1. We invite you to www.gaaaschool.org to continue your registration process. There are no fee increases this year. Students are recipients of Arête, AAA, and GSNS government funds as well as other scholarship funds.  See us today as you enroll.

Vacation Bible School 2020

Heroes VBS Home Edition

Hello Parents,

Due to the Covid-19 virus, we are not able to have our traditional Vacation Bible School program at church.  However, the North American Division Children’s Ministries department has reformatted HEROES VBS 2020 in two formats:

  1. HEROES VBS LIVE (complete program for individual homes)
  2. HEROES VBS for Families (for those who choose to plan and execute a full multi-family VBS at home)

We are recommending HEROES VBS LIVE.  Itis available to you and your family to enjoy in the comfort of your home. There is no fee.  Register online at www.adventistvbs.org by Friday, July 3. The program is scheduled for Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 10.

I apologize for this late notice, but DON’T DELAY.  Register immediately.

If you have any questions, please call me at 407-716-3595 or email flong@atlantaberean.com.
