My Church Life: I joined the Berean Church in 1960. I served as a junior deacon, then became a deacon.
Also, I served as a junior elder, then later became an elder. I currently serve as a deacon.
In 1946 my father, Herman and his 2 brothers, Furman and JT (twins), were all baptized at Berean by
Pastor Jeter Cox. A little later their wives were too. They included my mother, Larutha, Aunt Virgie Lee
(Furman’s wife), and Aunt Mable (JT’s wife). My father and brothers purchased and donated bonds to
the Berean church, which helped finance the purchase of the property and building materials for
erecting the new church building at 312 Hightower Road (presently the Berean Outreach Ministry
Center). Our family was all there when the Berean Church moved from Ashby to 312 Hightower Road
(now HE Holmes) to property owned by Willie Gene and Louise Watson. My father
and uncles were all faithful, ordained deacons of Berean until their deaths.
My Family:
My wife Phyllis and I have been married for 25 years. We have one
daughter, Felice who graduated from Mercer in 2020 and who is currently attending
graduate school in Connecticut. My parents were Herman and Larutha Watson. Two of my older siblings
were baptized by Pastor John Street at Berean in 1950, and I was baptized in 1960 by Pastor H.L.
Cleveland. My siblings and myself attended the first Berean Junior Academy at 230 Westview Drive in
Atlanta.
My Career:
I worked as a Medical Technologist and drew blood, processed the blood, and gave the
results to the doctors for several hospitals, including Grady and Piedmont. I then retired from Piedmont
Newnan Hospital, and am enjoying retirement life.
